  What: the story
   by Giorgio

We have asked Gian Franco Missiroli, the “senior” scientist of the group which performed the most beautiful experiment, to tell us the story of the experiment. In what follows we have reported a synthesis of his talk, subdivided in six short chapters (overall duration 13’20”). Captions below clips are abstracts of the main contents of each chapter.

 1 2

Origin of the interest for electronic interferometry

Teaching and research

Setting up the apparatus that would allow to record inteference fringes

The meeting in the lab of electron microscopy of Prof. Valdrè

Common characteristics of the protagonists

The electron microscopy seen as a research “lab”

 3 4

First paper published on 'American Journal of Physics

Advance news on the interference of single electron

The idea of an “interferential” electron microscope

Observation of the first interference fringes

 5 6

Toward the “visual” demonstration of the interference of the single electron

The organization of the experiment with the image intensifier

The choice to use a movie camera and birth of the movie

Support to the experiment by the scientific direction of the CNR

The results of the Physics World poll (2002)
