Not always do great scientists, not even Nobel laureates, make reliable predictions.... Richard Feynman, for instance, in the third volume of his celebrated Feynman Lectures on Physics, when dealing with the single electron interference experiment, maintained that the latter, due to unsurmountable technical difficulties, would forever remain a thought experiment (or Gedankenexperiment , in german).

In this section we look at the details of the experiment carried out by Merli Missiroli and Pozzi, examining the ingenious tricks which allowed the three to overcome the obstacles foreseen by R. Feynman and hence led to their successful accomplishment of the enterprise.
