3. Light
The one concerning light is the “classical” two slit experiment, which was first realized by Thomas Young in 1803, the fifth experiment in the list of the Physics World’ s most beautiful ten. The historical importance of Young’s achievement lies in the fact that he gave a convincing experimental proof of the wavelike nature of light. When this happened, this could not be taken for granted, since Newton’s corpuscular theory of light still found considerable credit among scientists.
