  Waves and interference
arrowleft1a arrowright1a
   by Marta

The details of the interference pattern produced by two sources of circular waves in water depend on the ratio between the distance of the sources and the wavelength of the perturbation. In the computer animations reported below we choose three different cases, in which the distance increases from 1 to 2 to 3 times the wavelength. It appears that by increasing the distance an increase of the number of peaks, valleys, and nodal lines, occurs.

GIFA50103

1 Distance between sources equal to one wavelength

GIFA50102

2 Distance between sources equal to two wavelengths

GIFA50101

3 Distance between sources equal to three wavelengths
